Conservation Commission discusses invasive species, bridge repair at town forest

NH BELMONT — Belmont Conservation Commission delayed permanent repairs to the Town Forest bridge and approved invasive plant removal efforts. Chair Pauline Tessier reported that a temporary patch had been applied after someone fell through the bridge; permanent repairs will wait for cooler weather and volunteer assistance. The commission coordinated 10 volunteers, including five from the Student Conservation Association, to mechanically remove Glossy Buckthorn at Currier Sanborn, stacking pulled plants in 21 tarped piles.
The group also raised $530 for the Jeff Marden Scholarship Fund and unanimously approved a $36 reimbursement to member Denise Naiva for Old Home Day expenses. New alternate member Tabitha Lord joined the commission, which currently has two vacant alternate positions.
